Ibrahima (Ibou) Biaye is a Senegalese dancer, choreographer, musician, and master teacher of sabar and contemporary dance. Guided by a deep belief in movement as a universal language, he has devoted his life to sharing the power and spirit of dance.
Ibou’s training in djembe, sabar, and contemporary forms led him to École des Sables in Senegal’s Toubab Dialaw, where he was selected for a project created by Helge Letonja. This collaboration brought him to Germany, where he continued performing in works such as Desert and Drift. He has also worked with renowned choreographers including Susanne Linke, Patricia Norwolor, and Neco Celik, touring widely across Europe. In 2017, he originated and performed Benjamin with Opera Stuttgart.
As a teacher, Ibou is rooted in the Sabar tradition—an energetic, refined dance form from Senegal known for its dynamic footwork, full-body engagement, and movement quality shaped by dancing on sand. His classes blend foundational technique with ease, strength, and body-awareness practices, helping people reconnect with themselves and uncover their artistic voice. Through this work, he invites audiences to experience sabar not only as a dance, but as a heartbeat—an expression of unity, spirit, and shared humanity.
